We’ll use E-levy money wisely – Dep. Finance Minister

Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei Asare promises Ghanaians that the E-levy, like other levies, will be utilized wisely and well accounted for.

She revealed that most Ghanaians recognize the necessity for the tax, but their primary problem is accountability by the government.

This, the honorable deputy minister said the ruling government will ensure accountability and transparency with proceeds generated from the e-levy if approved by parliament.

She said;

“What I hear Ghanaians say about the E-levy is that yeah, we want it, it is good,”. But we want greater transparency in that area – show us how much money you collected and what you used it for. Transparency and accountability are key.”

Abena Osei Asare made the promise at Ghana Revenue Authority’s Annual Management Retreat in Ho, Volta Region.

The E-levy has since its declaration as one of the new avenue championed by the Akufo Addo-led government to tax all online and electronic monetary transaction but a large section of the population have kicked against it.
