VIDEO: Isaac Dogboe Gets New Trainer, Returns Into The Ring

Former world super-bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe will now be trained by Hall of Famer and seven-time trainer of the year, Freddie Roach.

Dogboe released a video of him working with Roach recently. Roach was last seen on Saturday night, in Manny Pacquiao’s corner as the Senator from the Philippines won a thrilling 12-round split decision over previously undefeated Keith Thurman to claim Thurman’s WBA world welterweight title.

Roach also worked Tyson Fury’s corner when the Brit fought WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder to a draw last December. The owner of the Wild Card Boxing Gym also trained James Toney, Mike Tyson, Virgil Hill, Miguel Cotto and many more.

But Roach is best known for his work with Pacquiao. The two joined forces in 2001. In their first fight together, Pacquiao scored a huge upset over then-122lb. champion, Lehlo Ledwaba. That kickstarted one of the greatest runs in boxing history–which continues to this day as Pacquiao is world champion once again, at age 40.

Dogboe, on the other hand, is coming off successive losses to Emmanuel Navarrete. Dogboe first won the title in January 2018, stopping then-unbeaten champion Jessie Magdaleno in the eleventh round. He followed that up with a first-round KO over Hidenori Otake that August.

It’s been all downhill since. Navarrete first defeated Dogboe last December, battering him en route to a 12-round unanimous decision in his title-winning effort. The rematch, which occurred last May, was even worse as Navarrete stopped him in 12. Seemingly no adjustments were made as the 5-foot-2 Dogboe struggled to get inside of Navarrete’s long arms.

Now “Royal Storm” has joined forces with one of the greatest trainers of all time. No word on what this means for Paul Dogboe, father and previous trainer of Isaac.
