OKADA Is Too “Risky” To Be Legalized As Business – Dr. Bawumia Declares

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia has made bold a statement on behalf of the ruling government concerning the legalization of the Okada as a business.

Without any fear or favor, Dr. Bawumia declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the able leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo will not legalize OKADA Business.

Given his reason, the astute economist indicated that the ‘Okada’ operation which sought to be legalized in the country is a “risky” business that exposes the lives of riders to danger.

Dr. Bawumia has therefore promised that the NPP government will provide the riders with a better alternative by supporting them to purchase cars assembled in Ghana.

The Vice President argued that with the right structures in place, ‘Okada’ operators will be able to buy or lease cars to run much ‘safer’ businesses as part of government automobile development drive.

“Their [Okada riders] problem will be the lack of capital but if they [Transport Sector Recapitalisation Project] bring in new leasing policies and we have our national ID card with our digital addresses and so on, we can have a credit system working and give you an option other than this risky venture,” he added.
