Stunnin Questions TGMA Unsung Artist Selection: Was Kofi AC Overlooked?

As the entrepreneur behind Stunnin Events and Promotions (StEPs) and the promoter of Kofi AC, I feel compelled to express my displeasure and disappointment with the selection process for this year’s TGMA Unsung Artist category. While we all acknowledge that award schemes have their own internal mechanisms for selecting nominees, it is important that these processes remain transparent, fair, and truly representative of talent.

It is baffling that an artist like Kofi AC, who has put in the work, delivered quality music, and is making waves in the industry, was not recognized. His latest release, ‘Bossu’ ft. Amingo, is not just another song—it is a cultural statement, a well-produced hit that embodies the essence of authentic Ghanaian music. Beyond that, Kofi AC has been at the forefront of advocating for upcoming artists, particularly pushing for their inclusion in Ghana’s Ace Heritage Month celebrations. If the Unsung category is meant to spotlight rising stars who are making an impact, then Kofi AC should have been a natural choice.

So, the question remains: What exactly was the selection criteria? Was it based on quality music, fan engagement, or industry affiliations? If we are to compare, from Romeo Swag to Fad Lan, only Fad Lan has arguably better music—but even that does not come close to the quality and impact of ‘Bossu’ or ‘Kofi o Kofi’ by Kofi AC. If the focus was truly on talent and hard work, then Kofi AC’s absence from the list is a major oversight.

As a promoter of upcoming artists, I am not just speaking for myself—I am speaking for every talented artist out there who deserves a fair shot but continues to be overlooked because of a system that often favors connections over quality. This needs to change.

Unfair selections like this demoralize those of us who invest time, energy, and resources into producing and promoting good music with quality content for consumers. If we want to build a strong music industry, we cannot continue to ignore hardworking, talented artists simply because they do not have the “right” industry connections.

Regardless of this setback, Stunnin Events and Promotions will continue to push Kofi AC and other talented artists in Ghana who are truly making an impact. Awards or not, real music will always shine, and Kofi AC’s time will come.

To the industry stakeholders, fans, and music lovers—we see what’s happening, and we will continue to support true talent. The movement does not stop here!
