NPP on supersonic speed into opposition – Korsi Senyo reacts to NPP’s fake news publisher tag

The Managing Editor of Awake Africa Newspaper (https://awakenewsroom.com), Korsi Senyo has taken to his Facebook page to blast the governing New Patriotic Party – NPP over what he described as “signs of a desperately dishonest ruling political struggling to tout its achievements for the 4year mandate given them.”

According to him, “It is now clear the NPP is on a supersonic speed into opposition.”

Two days ago, the Minister for Communication, Ursula Owusu, and Zongo Development Minister, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid led other NPP members and Presidential Staffers to share a flyer on their various social media pages with the inscription “Top 10 NDC Fake News Websites”.

First on their list was awakenewsroom.com with the other nine news portals.

Today, the NPP released another flyer with some 10 communicators of the opposition NDC and tagged them “Top 10 NDC Fake News Sharers”.

Seeming as an agenda by the ruling NPP to negatively brand anyone or media that is critical of their government, the investigative journalist took to his Facebook page to react saying “From Top 10 fake #NDC news websites to Top 10 NDC officials that share Fake News. The next list the #NPP will release will be the Top 10 fake NDC Parliamentary Candidates for election 2020.”

The rather unperturbed Korsi Senyo continues that “I have a more reason to campaign for the NDC to contribute to its victory at the December polls. For the NDC, though they will not openly or secretly recognize my efforts, they will not kill my business. From 2009 to 2017 that the Prof. Mills and John Mahama ruled Ghana, I have not seen or heard any calculated agenda targeted at killing Ghanaians own business nor closed down any media house that was critical of their administration. In fact, former President John Mahama during the 2016 elections never branded the thepro-NPP newspaper, Daily Guide with any negative tags but rather gave them adverts.”

“I join the #RescueMission2020. Another for years in the hands of the President Akufo-Addo led NPP will mean another 4years of killing more Ghanaian owned businesses and pro-opposition media houses.” – He added.

The President Akufo-Addo led NPP government is largely criticised for having closed down a number of media houses including Radio Gold, Motie FM perceived as pro-opposition NDC media house.

Ghana since 2017 under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo has been reducing the position of the Media Freedom Index. In the 2020 index, Ghana was ranked 30th out of 180 countries, a drop of three places from its 2019 rank of 27. Ghana fell four places in 2019 from its 2018 ranking of 23. The RSF’s main reason for Ghana’s consistent drop on the index is that the country was not doing enough to protect journalists.
