Plans are underway for the National Identification Authority, NIA to begin a nationwide Ghana card distribution and mop-up registration exercise.
According to a piece of information made available to FNN24.com, the authority led by Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah will start a nationwide distribution of printed Ghana cards on Monday, 8th June to Tuesday 16th June 2020.
The information further reveals that a Mop-up registration exercise in some selected regions will follow immediately on 18th June 2020.
However, the exact ending date for the mop-up registration exercise has not been disclosed yet but it is expected to end within two (2) weeks.
This means that those who haven’t received their Ghana card would have the opportunity to receive their cards, likewise those who couldn’t register.

This in effect, is to help as many Ghanaians to obtain the Ghana card which has become one of the two valid documents needed to register for the all planned new Voters’ register to e compiled by the Electoral Commission, EC, of Ghana.
The EC chaired by Madam Jean Mensa has insisted that only Passport and Ghana Card are the only two valid documents it will accept for the new voters’ card regardless.
Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dragged the commission to court for refusal to name the current voter ID among the mandatory documents.
Some concerned Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have also added up their voices with calls on the EC bosses to do the needful ahead of the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2020.
Will the Electoral Commission listen to calls by meaningful Ghanaians to include the current voter ID as one of the valid documents or it will still insist on just the Passport and Ghana card?
