Government spends GHC 2 million daily to feed people in lock down areas – NADMO

The Communications Director of NADMO, Mr. George Ayisi has revealed in an interview with Star FM that the government is making a daily expenditure of GH₵2 million to feed Ghanaians.

“We are spending 2 million a day on the hot meals we are providing and it is not one person alone preparing the meal. It is spread across many people,” he said.

Adding a breakdown to the figure mentioned, Mr. Ayisi said the state spends GH₵5 on each pack of food to feed over 400,000 under the social intervention program making a total of GHC2m daily.

When asked to respond to concerns following videos emerging on social media where people defy social distancing and struggle for food, he said, “I’m yet to see the video of masses receiving food. NADMO officials have however been instructed to go by the social distance protocols.”

He further added that “the thing is before we go there, the crowd is gathered and they think the food is going to get finished but we have enough,”.
