President Nana Akufo-Addo on December 9, 2020, two days after he won the presidential election made a solemn promise to Ghanaians not to let them down.
Well, fast forward in 2021, the president cannot boldly chest out that he has lived to expectations as several Ghanaians are crying out loud over persistent sufferings and hardships.

President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he will work to build a prosperous country for all Ghanaians.
Delivering his victory speech moments after he was declared winner of the country’s keenly fought Presidential elections, he said “I am extremely grateful to you fellow Ghanaians for this victory. I am deeply humbled again for your show of confidence and I do not take this lightly.”
“There could be that tendency for an incumbent president who has just secured a second term in office, to as it where, take it easy and relax because there is nothing more to lose or prove. I am of a different character.
“Just as I have been doing since January 2017, I give you my word that I will continue to work very hard to build a prosperous and progressive Ghana for which we yearn.
“The decisive margin of victory in this election constitutes for me an endorsement of the policies and programs initiated by the government and put before the electorate…and I am determined to do all in my power to accomplish the task of this new mandate and thereby justify the confidence reposed in me,” he said
“I assure you fellow Ghanaians that I would do my best not to let you down,” the President-Elect said.

President-elect Akufo-Addo, 76, defeated his main opponent Mr. John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress by 51.59 percent to 47.37 percent in the keenly fought race, in which over 13 million Ghanaians voted in 275 constituencies across the country, to secure another four-year term in office.
The country held polls on Monday, December 7 to elect a new President and 275 legislators to run the affairs of the country for the next four years. The election is the eighth consecutive exercise since the country’s fourth Republican dispensation in 1992.
International monitors say voting was free, fair and the process was credible and mostly peaceful.
Cutting a conciliatory tone, President-elect Akufo-Addo called on his main contender and Ghanaians, in general, to bury their differences and work together for the growth, prosperity, and development of the country.
“The period for campaigning is over and the outcome of the election has been decided. The Ghanaian people through the results have made it loud and clear that the NPP and the NDC must work together, especially in parliament, for the good of the country.
“Now is the time for each and every one of us, irrespective of our political affiliations to unite, join hands, stand shoulder to shoulder, and work hard to place Ghana where she deserves to be, a prosperous and dynamic member of the global community making her own unique contribution to the growth of world civilization,” he said.

The President-elect said his immediate task would be to continue with the process to reverse the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy, and put the nation on course for full economic recovery and development
“Before the pandemic struck, Ghana was one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. I give you my word that we would regain that reputation,” he stated
