Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings is challenging Akufo-Addo’s government to be creative when it comes to revenue mobilization.
Dr. Zanetor tasked the ruling government to look for other ways to boost the country’s economy rather than imposing the E-levy on Ghanaians.
The MP expressed her reservations about the contentious bill to Prince Kwame Minkah on Dwaboase on TV XYZ, saying it will cause hardship to Ghanaians.
“What we’re having a problem with is the amount of money that’s being targeted,” she explained.
“They have to be imaginative,” the medical expert stated when asked if the government can look at other methods to increase money in the country. You must be able to identify digital money if you determine it is. At the very least, people are using their national ID cards and TINs (Tax Identification Number). Use this to determine which funds are taxable, and then go after them.
“Don’t place people in circumstances where they feel hopeless [and] when things have become so terrible that their lives have become difficult to handle.”
“When I go around my constituency talking to people, whether they are old or young, their main concern is that the little they have is also being taxed.” It’s a challenging scenario…. “Retreating isn’t always a sign of loss,” she continued.
