Hiplife is a Ghanaian musical style that fuses Ghanaian culture and hip-hop. Recorded predominantly in the Ghanaian Akan language, hiplife has rapidly gained popularity throughout West Africa and abroad.
In the late 90s, one of the pioneers of hiplife who gained instant fame with the ‘Philomena’ hit song is Tic Tac now called TiC.
During a celebrity interview with Amansan Krakye of Radio Central fame in Cape Coast, TiC was asked whether hiplife as a Ghanaian music genre deserves to be studied in schools, he said
“Some university students recently contacted me that they are using my exploits as a legend in the hiplife genre for their research case study or project work.
“Some filmmakers from Germany also came to interview me about the history of hiplife for a documentary”

“As I’m talking to you now I have met over 200 people who in diverse ways want to do inquiries about the history of hiplife as a genre of music”
Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah popularly known as TiC is an award-winning hiplife musician originally from Kwamo, a suburb in the Ashanti Region in Ghana.
“So I think if it will be considered in a way to formerly include hiplife in our curriculum to get the upcoming ones well informed about aspects of our Ghanaian music and culture, why not it’s not bad”
TiC has been very vibrant on the music scene lately, with nominations in all the major music awards in and outside Ghana. Recent among them are two nominations in Ghana Music Awards UK.
